Ask Me Anything with Jimmy Mackin of Curaytor

You are either going forward or backward. - Jimmy Mackin

Jimmy Mackin and the team at Curaytor do things differently.

They believe that there is power in attracting business in real estate through great marketing.

We’re not just talking about nicely packaged brochures or mailers you send out…

We are talking about intentional digital marketing that grabs your audience's attention and positions you as the only option for their next real estate transaction.

This week we are talking to Jimmy Mackin, the CEO over at Curaytor.

Jimmy Mackin, CEO at Curaytor, speaking at a real estate conference.

Jimmy Mackin and the team at Curaytor are redefining the playbook of how to be a successful real estate agent in today’s world and are changing the way agents build their business.

Jimmy is not only interesting but insightful. Come meet him!

Jimmy, describe what a typical day in your life looks like.

My day starts the night before.

I prepare a list of goals I want to accomplish the next day.

A typical day for me is split between product development, research, marketing, and coaching -- internally to my team and externally to my customers.

Before I open my email, slack or social media, I try to get through as much as I can that’s on my priority list.

If you don’t control your calendar, someone else will.

I’m fanatical about minimizing distractions so I can work on meaningful projects.

What's your superpower?

Going from ZERO to One.

It takes a focused effort to create something from nothing.

Most organizations suffer from inaction because they are saddled with operational debt.

This is a MAJOR problem.

When building a business, there is no neutral. You are either going forward or backward.

I am always looking for the next big idea.

I like to say to the team, when we innovate we grow, when we don’t, we don’t.

How are you disrupting your market/niche?

At Curaytor, we believe that it’s better to attract than to chase. Most real estate marketing is designed to trick and trap the consumer into trying to do business with you.

This is a lost cause.

We’re entering into a new world where the consumer is in complete control of what they share, who they share it with, and when they share it.

Great brands recognize that the best way to attract customers is to focus on providing valuable content that can help educate them into making a better, more informed decision.

At Curaytor, we help our clients build their brands, grow their influence, and attract new customers through higher-quality marketing and advertising strategies.

In short, we’re putting an end to bad real estate marketing and we are ushering in a new era of consumer-first marketing.

What drives you personally? What’s your why?

My why is progress.

It’s what drives everything in my life, my relationships and business.

I want to be moving forward.

I don’t reflect on the past and I don’t worry about things I can’t control.

I just focused on getting better.

Is there a piece of content, podcast, book, video, etc that you always recommend to real estate agents?

Exactly What To Say For Real Estate Agents.

What makes you uniquely qualified to train agents on lead gen?

At Curaytor, we work with 500+ high-performing real estate teams across North America.

We’ve generated over 5 Million leads and that’s just from Facebook.

When you serve the best of the best, they expect results and that’s what we deliver.

What accomplishment are you most proud of?

The next one.

What did you learn through the pandemic that’s helped you thrive today?

If you want to be successful in business, you have to play offense and defense.

Too many businesses fall into the trap of growth at any cost or are too afraid of making any investment, they limit their potential.

You have to be relentless about driving growth and be obsessed about the bottom line to be successful in any industry and that’s particularly true for real estate.

What’s your favorite piece of marketing that you’ve seen?

Smart marketers focus on the outcomes and the benefits, not the cost. If we are to be irreplaceable, you must understand what your customers value about your services and continue to lean into what makes you special.

With over 1.5 million active customers, $264,000,000 in revenue, and an NPS of 81 -- FIGS has become the leader in the healthcare apparel market.

Their marketing is 🔥

What resources do you use to keep up with business news?

When a company decides they want to become publicly traded on the stock engaged, they have to file an S-1.

For anyone who is a student of business, this is an untapped gold mine.

You can use the SEC website to search for S-1’s to get your PhD in business strategy.

What are some common misconceptions about our industry?

That all agents are the same.

A consumer who thinks all agents are the same has never worked with a great one.

A great agent is worth every penny you pay them in commission.

Take The Next Step

We appreciate Jimmy taking the time to answer these questions. There were definitely some nuggets of wisdom sprinkled throughout there.

One of my favorites was,

“If you don’t control your calendar, someone else will.”

What did you think of the questions we asked Jimmy? What would you have added?
